Company

F. A. Vinnen & Co. is a modern Owner and Manager of midsize container vessels. Currently our fleet consists of nine ships mostly in the 4.000 to 5.000 TEU size range. We are a specialist for the innovative Wide Beam class where we operate six vessels of that type. Wide Beam class means vessels of 3.800 or 5.000 TEU that are wider (37m) and not as long as Panamax vessels. Together with smaller engines that are optimised for medium speeds these Wide Beam vessels are much more efficient. For more details please see “Fleet”.

We are Shipowners, Shipmanagers as well as Crewing Managers. That means we own ships, sometimes together with investors, but we also provide full shipmanagement services for foreign Owners. Here we are proud to cooperate with Costamare Inc. a US-listed Shipowner.

Through our closely affiliated company F. A. Vinnen Philippines we provide crewing services for our vessels as well as for other third-party vessels. We are always looking for good seafarers and young people who want to start their career with us. You can find more details at their webpage and under “Career”.

We take care of the vessels but as usual in our industry we charter the vessels out to Container Liner companies. We are happy that we have been able to do direct chartering business with the biggest in that field, such as Maersk Line, CMA CGM, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, COSCO and many others.

Our vessels are providing the transportation in our customers liner services in practically every part of the world. Have a look where our vessels currently are at “Positions”.

We know what we are doing also because we are in shipping since 1819. This year we can proudly celebrate 200 years of Reederei F. A. Vinnen & Co. We are a family owned and family run business, where our Managing Partner Michael Vinnen is the seventh generation in the family who heads the business.

Innovation and adaptation secured the ongoing success of F. A. Vinnen & Co. From wooden sailing ships to big steel five-masters to steamers to general cargo ships to container vessels. Vinnen was always at the forefront of changing the industry. With the “Magdalene Vinnen” the great-grandfather of Michael Vinnen in 1921 ordered and then owned the biggest sailing vessel of the world. She is still in service and is operated under the name of “Sedov” as a training sail vessel. Find out more under “History”.

About Us

Ships cannot be run by the Captain alone. He or she needs a good crew with different specialisations. That is the same for the management of the Reederei. Michael Vinnen heads a team of highly qualified specialists. He himself has a business education whereas his Co-Managing Director Bernd Hein has a nautical background. This leadership team has been with Vinnen for more than 50 years and can together look back on more than 85 years of industry experience. You can rely on us.
